Fraudulent Conduct at Committal Hearing
Jones + Associates recently appeared on behalf of a client at his Committal Hearing before the Beenleigh Magistrates Court. Our client stood accused of fraudulently obtaining over $300,000.00 from his company and co-directors.
At the conclusion of the committal hearing which involved cross-examination of one of the company directors, Alex Jones of or office made the rare application to have the charge discontinued at that early stage for lack of evidence. After lengthy submissions incorporating relevant provisions of the Corporations Act the Magistrate was convinced that no jury could possibly convict our client.
As a result the charge was discounted, ensuring our client was required to stand trial by jury in the District Court.
